Sooner or later, most of us have or will face the situation discussed here by the Family Curator. Along with some other good references, she offers some very useful suggestions to get you started on your task.

What do you think? Have you had this experience?  Comments welcomed.

  1. In the year since I started doing genealogy, all kinds of stuff has come my way..even from my ex-husband! My current goal is just to get it all in one room. How do you eat an elephant? Yeah, me too.

  2. Thanks for the nods, Dr. Bill. I am still learning about how to deal with a family archive, and love to hear how others work with the situation. In the past few years I have added five more estates to the family mix. It's beginning to look like a full time job!

  3. I try to "semi-organize" the materials that I have. I could easily spend all of my time organizing (and never writing). So for me, it seems to work better if I have things organized enough so that I can find them- while at the same time just accepting that I could do it much better if I had more time.
