Surname Saturday - Walters

Surname Saturday - Walters

Mary Ann Walters (1826-1921)

Earlier in the Offill Surname posting we identified one of Nancy’s great-grandparent couples as:

Norman David Wilson (1844-1914) married Mary Ellen Offill (1854-1934). Her parents were:

James A. Offill (1819-1904) married Mary Ann Walters (1826-1921).

The parents of Mary Ann Walters (1826-1921) were:

Matthias Walters (1800-1880) married Elizabeth Betsy Anna O’Neil (1792-1831).

They had three children, Rhoda Jane Walters (1821-1872), Mary Ann Walters (1826-1921), and Franklin Walters (1830-1907). The mother died in 1831.  He remarried and that wife died a few years later. He married a third time to Barbara Ann Smith and they had six more children. Nancy had nothing recorded on the parents of Matthias, though I know she spent a lot of time researching him and his first three children. Franklin settled in Kansas, so we followed his family in depth.

She has that he was Scotch, and a surveyor in Indiana. Born in either Tennessee or Virginia, per census records, he had Land Grants and was on Tax Lists in Kentucky in 1839-1841.

When the children were grown, she stayed in Kentucky and he went to Lawrence County, OH, where he died in 1880 at the age of 80.

Resuming Surname Saturday Daily Theme

Resuming Surname Saturday Daily Theme

My last Surname Saturday post was on 3 May 2014. It is time to resume this writing tradition.

Ruth Thomas and Glenn Bolger - married 8 May 1934

For at least the next 16 weeks, I will be posting on the Surnames in the family tree of my late wife, Nancy (Bolger) Smith. We’ve lived and posted many individual stories here of these families, mostly as we traveled to family history research at their home communities over the years. She did a great job of gathering and collecting information over the years, but we always each kept our own records. You likely noticed I’ve already started to post some new material under the Bolger-Thomas-Smith-Kinnick connection theme. This will formalize that a little more. Here we list the surname of the Round of 16, through 2nd Great Grandparents to get us started and to use as an anchor. Later on, we’ll post a few more, I’m sure.

Parents - Glenn Bolger and Ruth (Thomas) Bolger

Grandparents Surnames added: Wilson and Weaver

Great Grandparents added:

Dolan, Yager, Offill, Lynk

2nd Great Grandparents added:

Dolan (different?), Hartman, Dockstader, Dickey, Walters, Adkins, Tyler, Steel
